Job Description

This iconic and inspiring parish church has a tradition of modern liturgy and inspiring music. Following a restructuring of the music department, the church is looking to make a permanent appointment to the new post of Assistant Director of Music.

 

Remuneration dependent on experience

 

This is a developing role which will expand significantly with time dependent on the candidate. Initially there is a requirement to play at the weekly Choral Eucharist with extras during Christmas, Holy Week, Easter and school holidays. There is the opportunity to earn additional income from Weddings and Funerals.

 

Required as soon as possible

 

Reporting to the Director of Music, the successful candidate should not only have the necessary musical skills, qualifications and experience as outlined in the person specification, but should have a full and sympathetic understanding of the meaning and principles of Church of England liturgy.

Fee’s dependent on experience

Hours of work will be a minimum of playing at the Sunday morning Eucharist each week with extras during Christmas, Holy Week, Easter and school holidays. There is the opportunity to earn additional income from Weddings and Funerals.

Required as soon as possible

The successful candidate should not only have the necessary musical skills, qualifications and experience as outlined in the person specification, but should have a full and sympathetic understanding of the meaning and principles of Church of England liturgy. The successful candidate must have:-

  • Experience as a church musician, or equivalent
  • Experience as a choral/ liturgical accompanist
  • Extensive knowledge of organ repertory
  • Knowledge of the practices of the Church of England
  • Flexibility and ability to understand the need to work outside regular hours when the occasion arises
  • Knowledge of sacred choral music from medieval to contemporary

Additionally the following would be advantageous:

  • Skills as a choral conductor and choir trainer
  • The ability to train and inspire young people to high musical standards
