Confirmations this year will take place at Charnock Richard, Christ Church on Wednesday 23 June at 18:00 and 19:30.   For many years we have held a confirmation eucharist in Eccleston Parish Church.  However, as a united benefice it is right to share the joys and outreach of our work with young people, so Bishop Philip will be confirming the candidates at Charnock Richard across two services to ensure social distancing and to enable as many family and supporters of the confirmands to attend as possible.  Please pray for all the candidates including Ethan Hilton from our parish.

On Sunday 6 June the Cathedral Church of St Mary the Virgin, Blackburn send loving greetings to both our parishes as we are prayed for by name.  Please remember to pray of the cathedral, the Dean and the work of the cathedral in Blackburn.

The Midweek Eucharist

As restrictions are eased further some people may still be unsure about returning to church on a Sunday.  If you are missing the 08:00 on Sunday, the eucharist on Wednesday at 11:30 has a smaller congregation and may provide a more reassuring way to worship and receive communion.

The PCC will be making a decision about the service pattern at the next meeting.  As yet there have been very few responses re the 08:00 Sunday eucharist or alternatives.  If you wish to contribute please do so as soon as possible.  One recent suggestion is to hold a midweek eucharist on a Thursday evening.  Whilst this may clash with choir practice it could be possible once a month

Coming to church

We continue to be vigilant and would ask you to register your attendance, use hand sanitiser; wear a mask and remain two metres apart from others at all times.

Singing Since 17 May, the government has issued stricter guidance on singing in church which is more restrictive for amateur choirs than was the case immediately before 17 May.  For professional choirs there is some relaxation of the rules as long as social distancing is observed.  Please be assured we will do all we can to comply with new guidelines in order to keep you safe.  In a parallel development Fr Andrew has been appointed the Blackburn Diocese representative for the RSCM (Royal School of church Music) and he will do all he can to seek clarity on the revised government position and press for a sensible and timely easement of the more restrictive guidance.

Solidarity in Song  The RSCM Big Music Sunday Service - Sunday 6 June, 18:00
We know how devastating the recent news from UK Government regarding singing has been.  Please rest assured we are working hard to challenge this at the highest possible level.  The participative ‘Big Music Sunday Service’ on Sunday 6 June will provide comfort and support to all the millions of people who feel cut off – from singing, from worship and from each other.  Live-streamed on the RSCM YouTube channel, which you can go to by clicking the link or the RSCM logo above, the service from the magnificent Lichfield Cathedral, the Big Music Sunday Service will be an opportunity for singers to stand together, albeit virtually, as a large collective voice.

Last year, 2,000 people joined us live; and we want more to do so this time in these trying circumstances.  The music is rich and varied, and comes from around the world – which seems especially appropriate at this time, as we all come together to support each other.  BBC Songs of Praise will also be featuring RSCM’s Music Sunday on their programme on Sunday 6 June, where they will be exploring the power of music in worship.

Corpus Christi Thanks to all who attended our Corpus Christi eucharist on Thursday evening.  Thanks to the musicians who enhance and support our liturgy week in week out.  Some of the confirmation candidates were facinated by the the rituals that we practiced at the eucharist which they had never seen before.  This opened up a discussion about theology and doctrine with them.  Thank goodness the Church of England is so broad and not narrow minded any longer.
